Simple Pleasures

My heart beats against my chest

As I desperately try to keep myself together

I know its been a while since Ive seen you

But it actually feels like its been forever.

Words simply cant say

How it felt to once again see you

The moment I saw your face

I swear my heart quit beating for just a second or two.

The best night I have had in recent memory

Was the night you decided to stop by.

As I watched you pull into my drive way

My heart let out a deep sigh.

Then it suddenly dawned on me

That you were actually here.

I tried to hide my excitement

But I was busted smiling from ear to ear.

The simple pleasure of your company

Is the only gift you've got to give.

For a while I thought I forgot how to smile.

But now once again I have an incentive.

But I'm stuck on what I shoulda done

Or there must have been something I should have told her

My mind silently pleads with God

To make the time pass by just a little slower.

Inevitably the evening came to a close

Tonight I go to sleep with a grin

Because tomorrow is only a few hours a way

Till I hopefully get the chance to hopefully see her again.
