You don't have to be Carrie Bradshaw, living in Manhattan, to be stylish this spring. It simply takes some inside information on the latest trends and you can put together a fabulously sheek look that is all your own. This season is about exotic florals, bold colors and retro prints. Many designers are also adding a touch of metallic to make those soft flowing pieces pop. Another must have is the all white pant suit, dress or mix matched items. White is a fantastic stable color because you can build upon it with other elements from your wardrobe whether that is jewelry, colorful scarves, a cutting edge belt or an offbeat pin.
When thinking about incorporating florals to your palette, think big. These are not your average Laura Ashley prints that we are talking about either. The designers have put together a collection this year that beacons you to an exotic landscape with oversized blooms, large leafy plants and vibrant blurred floral motifs. The look that you want to achieve is that of a Monet watercolor or a Picasso print. If you feel uncomfortable wearing such an ostentatious outfit, then consider scaling it down by pairing a bold floral scarf with a solid top and coordinating pants. The 70s retro prints are hot right now, as well. Simply walk through Bloomingdales or Saks and you will spot the ever so stylish tunics, roman togas and long flowing skirts.
Colors of choice this spring are anything and everything bold, but specifically look for items in lime green and coral. If you want to add just a splash of these colors, then try some of the magnificent accessories being shown. Remember an accessory can be anything from jewelry to a handbag or jazzed up hair piece.
As I mentioned earlier, designers are adding a hint of metallic this season. One of the most popular ways to showcase this is with a pair of bling jeans. Laguna Beach is showcasing a hot collection that adds just the right amount of pizzazz. They have teamed up with Swarovski and are taking the vintage denim look to a whole new level.
One other area that you will see an abundance of embellishments is women's footwear. Designers such as Prada, Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, Salvatore Ferragamo and others are putting the funk back into funky. Your feet now will look like pieces of art vs. the functional sandals that you have been accustomed too. Plan to see patterns like polka dots, florals, stripes, checks and others adorned with things such as bows, buckles, feathers, jewels, and flowers. If you can imagine it, you will see it this year. Sky's the limit.
No matter what your personal fashion taste, I encourage you to push the boundaries. This is the year to do it and who knows what wonderful creations you will come up with. Hey a fun trip to your local vintage shop, paired with a few contemporary items might just be the ticket.
