Throw me choices and I will give you more choices. If you ask me what to improve, I will say before you think in that direction, why not add a GPS receiver to the smart phone. Now a days, there are so many software to map your way around, but they need a GPS receiver to work with. If the smart phone has the GPS receiver Chip, it can integrate with these softwares (like Microsoft Street and Trips, Tom Tom etc) and voila you don't have to worry any more of taking a wrong turn when you are commuting!
If you limit the discussion purely to improving the current features in a smart phone, I will try and evaluate each and every one of those features,
1) Camera: 1.3 / 2 Mega Pixels is can't take you far enough. You can receive good clarity only when it is 3.2 Mega Pixels. But then the question is how much of a Zoom factor can be added to a smart phone? If not much then smart phone camera can only be for very amateurish photography (and believe many people might still not be interested in it).
2) Cell Phones: A lot of smart phone are already close to providing a very good quality on the cell phone aspect. I have a Nokia 6630 and it give me quality cell phone usage.
3) PDA: This is a very tacky question. What all are you looking for in a PDA. If you ask for Calendar, Scheduler, and other small apps then it's fine. But if the demand is for an email client, that's where most of the smart phones start having problems. Email clients are definitely one thing that needs improvement without hampering the performance of other objects.
4) MP3 and the rest of the application: I am clubbing everything else into applications as they need only one thing (space). If you have disk space on your smart phone, you can load as many applications you want to (MP3, Video player, etc).
To conclude, give me a GPS Receiver and a better mail client and I will be glad to own that smart phone.
