How to Improve Your Golf Swing
What golfer on any level doesn't wish to improve their swing and consequently improve their game and lower their scores? We all do and years in the golf industry have shown me that many golfers will explore just about any avenue in their attempts at a better swing.
I hope you don't mind if I address some of the most basic issues in the game rather than go on and on about how to grip a club, how to take a stance for each type of shot and so forth. My opinion is let's begin literally from the ground up.
As a person who has spent years building, repairing and re-gripping clubs as well as teaching I can't emphasize enough the true importance of playing golf with a set of clubs that are fitted to you. Let's face it; when you went out to get some golf shoes you did not buy a pair of size twelve shoes instead of the size ten you know fits you just because the bigger ones looked better. You bought shoes that fit you and felt comfortable.
It is vital to the very basics of the game that you do the same with clubs. Each individual has different fitting requirements. One person is 6' 2" tall; another is 5' 10" tall. One person has long thin fingers another has short stubby fingers. One person may have long legs and a short torso while another has long limbs and a long torso. Would it make sense that all of these people should go to a retail golf store and all buy the same size product? Of course not.
Proper grip size as well as type of grip is a crucial key not only for a correct grip but also for you to learn to hold and swing the club with a relaxed grip. That correct and relaxed grip alone will help solve many of the problems in a golf swing. Do you know what your correct grip size is?
In order to take a productive stance and address the ball shaft length is extremely important. Certainly the person who is 5' 9" tall should not be swinging with the same shaft as a person who is 6' 1" tall. You're talking about a four inch difference and again comfort, relaxation and proper address are all key factors to a good golf swing.
Age, fitness level, flexibility and knowledge of the game should also influence your choice of shafts in your clubs. Should you be swinging a pro-level steel shaft or would you be better off with a lighter graphite shaft? Should you be playing a stiff shaft or a regular? Being completely confident in your equipment while standing over a shot goes a long way toward producing the shot you want. More than one great golfer over
