Fight aging with antioxidants

The reaction to the word antioxidant is rather interesting when talking amongst those who generally have little or no knowledge of food. The term would suggest something far more medically complex than the simple end result of cancer fighting or free radical eliminating. The fact is, that everyone will eventually succumb to the effects that free radicals have on their bodies. Free radicals cause oxidation which are responsible for all age-related diseases and are only combated by one strong defence, diets rich in antioxidants. Even more ironic is the level of this compound found in some of the world's most beloved foods, some even categorized as treats. The simple truth about antioxidants is that you can enjoy your diet and load up on nutrients while prepping your body for its fight against cancer and other age-related ailments that inevitably fall upon us all. Red wine, chocolate(dark) and pomegranate in any form are all excellent sources of cancer fighting properties. Generally speaking, the more unrefined or unprocessed foods are, such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains, the better they are for you and the more antioxidant value they have. More often than not, another benefit of a diet rich in antioxidants will also support healthy heart function which is the case with red wine and chocolate.

As is the key with any foods that are good for you, the overall concept of moderation should be applied. A couple of glasses of wine(red) with a couple squares of chocolate daily will do your body wonders and allows you to enjoy life. Well, perhaps there's more required but you get the idea that diets rich in antioxidants don't have to be boring. Another great option are Brazil nuts, these natural wonders are loaded with protein, fibre, taste, and a dietary weapon known as selenium. Selenium is proven to help brain function and overall cell support. There is a high amount of fat in these nuts so you only require about 6-8 per day to maximize its benefits.

Now the key element to any healthy lifestyle is moderation and exercise. All the antioxidants in the world won't help much if the rest of your life is unbalanced. Start each day with a healthy breakfast thats high in protein and incorporates fresh fruit, whole grains and green tea. These menu options will ensure that your day begins with a healthy dose of antioxidants which will help fuel your morning exercise.
