Favorite songs of Jill Scott and what makes them the best

When Jill Scott arrived on the scene back in 2000 it wasn't hard to be unabashedly impressed with her sheer skill. Her debut made me very excited about what the new millennium would bring to the R&B genre. Now she's three albums into her career and the promise that shined so brightly in the beginning of this decade shows no signs of fading towards the end of this ten year period of music. The following songs are examples of what makes Jill Scott phenomenal. While these are my picks for best song, the essentials so to speak, this by no means is all you should hear of this dazzling alto. These are just the ones that show how much range she has as a vocalist and songwriter.

Here are the MP3 essentials for the fabulous Jill Scott.

1. Getting In The Way

This is the song that introduced us to the phenomenal Jill Scott. From the very beginning what made me such a big fan is just how much Scott is the full package. Her rich and full voice, her intelligent lyrics and the personality that explodes from her songs all make her one of the best artists to debut in this decade. This song finds herself getting protective of her relationship as she encourages a woman wanting to steal her man to "back down". The song is a great blend of jazz, neo-soul and R&B. You can find this song on her debut album.

2. Bedda At Home

This song finds Scott checking out a sexy man as she lists all his fantastic attributes as having the power to "pull one dollar bills out of my pocketbook". The lyrics are enjoyable and her performance is sizzling as she slips and slides all over the notes with a jazzy influence. Then she finally lets him know that no matter how fine he is she's got something even better at home. In the second verse she describe all his good attributes and makes a damn good argument on why he's so much better.

3. All I

Sexy, soft and feminine this song just oozes sensuality as Scott puts aside her more aggressive persona she opened The Real Thing with. This is a beautiful song about being vulnerable and in love. The music is soulful but Scott's satiny vocals definitely take center stage. It's the kind of song you put on when you're getting ready for a sexy evening with your lover. Definitely a song that makes you want to pull out the lingerie, dim the lights and make your fantasies a reality.

4. Hate On Me

Man this song is so amazing with its forceful horn section announcing Scott's arrival as she methodically and passionately takes her man to task. You feel every single word poke
