Guide to flagging a Helium article as inappropriate

When you write an article on Helium it is not reviewed by a professional staff before it is published. Instead, already published articles go through a rating process were they are evaluated by other fellow writers. Any member can participate in the rating system regardless of their writing experience. The purpose of the rating process is to identify the best written articles and to flag (a notification sent to the author) inappropriate ones for correction. This ensures articles are ranked fairly and the articles on Helium are appropriate for all ages.

Helium has made it so easy for writers to know when an article is inappropriate for the website and should be flagged. Using the following guidelines will let you know when you must flag an article.

ADULT CONTENT

Helium is a website open to writers age thirteen and older. It is not a totally adult site. There are many writers under the age of eighteen who submit articles. They also read articles as they learn to write or improve their skills. For this reason, adult content is not permitted in any article. If an article has adult content, it should be flagged. Be careful when flagging an article for this reason. Make sure what you are reading is truly adult content and not how you may view it.

ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES OR PRODUCTS

None of us are perfect. Some of us have done thing in our past that we are not pride us. In our attempt to be better people, we sometimes write about our experiences. These types of articles can be very beneficial to someone who may be going though the same situation and needs help to change their life. However, writing articles about illegal activities or products violates the Helium membership agreement. By flagging these articles you are alerting the Helium staff to an inappropriate article that may need to be deleted.

INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE

Articles on Helium are required to be written in the English language. Certain words may be acceptable in everyday speech but not on Helium. Using curse words or inappropriate language is not acceptable for articles. Sometimes these articles are overlooked because the author may begin the inappropriate words but not finish it or replace letters with symbols. This does not make the inappropriate language acceptable. The article should be flagged so that the author can select more appropriate language.
