Huntsville, Alabama is exploding in activities for homeschoolers but there is only a handful of places that have programs and activities specifically designed for homeschoolers. Even with only a handful of choices, each one is rich in learning and experience.
Early Works is a children's museum filled with many hands-on activities that makes learning about history fun. Early Works offers a Homeschool Academy designed specifically for those children who are homeschooled. You can enroll your child in a two hour class filled with several history-related activities to choose from. This program even includes take-home materials to continue your child's learning. The fee is $10 per person per session. Anyone interested must call 256.564.8124 to pre-register for a class. Class sizes are ten to thirty people. Early Works does reserve the right to cancel or postpone a class if a minimum of ten people are not enrolled. To find a list of the topics offered, please visit their website at

Sci-Quest is hands-on science center with more than 100 interactive exhibits. They have programs specifically designed for those that are homeschooled. Sci-Quest educators will take students through interactive lessons on a variety of topics. The topics do change throughout the year, so be sure to check out their website for a list of classes. These classes are offered on the second Wednesday of each month. You must pre-register at least two weeks in advance and they do not issue refunds if you decide not to attend after registering. In the event that a class does not meet minimum enrollment, Sci-Quest will refund your money. Sci-Quest is located at 102-D Wynn Drive. For more information, call 256.837.0606, ext.223.
The Huntsville Art Museum has an extensive list of art classes, including classes for homeschoolers. Class I is for ages 5-8 and Class II is for ages 9-13. The classes vary throughout the year so be sure to check out the website for class listings. The classes designed for homeschoolers cost $45. There is a class limit of fifteen students so be sure to call 256.535.4350 or 1.800.786.9095 to pre-register and to find out where the class is going to be hosted.
The Burritt Museum is a living museum and was donated to the city of Huntsville by Dr. William Henry Burritt in 1955. This makes the Burritt Museum Huntsville's first museum.
