Something is missing. Something is not quite right. That something could be excitement, relevance, or just plain style in your wardrobe. Coming out of the grey winter months can make your clothes feel as boring and dull as the dead grass in your yard. So open up your blinds, let that early spring sunshine in and fling open those closet doors it's time to put that special something back into your wardrobe.
Something Old
Let's just stick with that old mantra for brides. It fits. But, come on. Admit it. Some of your old clothes don't. Too large, too small neither work to make you look put together. Try on those clothes that haven't seen the artificial light of the bedroom for a long time. Why were they scrunched in a ball and shoved to the back of the closet? Don't try to breathe life back into these dead items just because you had a great date in them one night. But seriously, forgotten clothes are just that not impressionable enough to earn a place on a hanger. Get rid of all those forgotten, stained, ill fitting, uncomfortable pieces of clothing. This goes for all of your shoes too.
Now something old doesn't necessarily include your favorite well worn pair of jeans or that soft white tee that still looks perfect under a cute blazer. These are classics, basics that never go out of style. When you sort through your closet you want to keep those foundation pieces. Great fitting jeans and a classic white tee fall into that category. Hold on to your basics and build up from there.
Something New
Let's face it. Offer any woman a $5000 credit card to go on a shopping spree and she will jump at the chance. But since we can't all wait until those super-chic hosts of What Not to Wear knock on our doors, we need to be our own personal shoppers. The quickest way to find out what trends are hot for spring is to do a search on the internet. Some clothing store sites offer a "fitting room" where you can create a virtual you and dress in the latest trends. This can be a real eye opener. Just because a funky bold print is on trend doesn't mean it'll suit you. When you can see the clothes on your body type it will be very clear what looks flattering and what should stay in the store. Then make a list of the styles that work best for you and take it with you next time you go shopping.
Remember that clothing is an investment. The returns? Self-confidence. Professional appearance. Less frustration when dressing in the morning. So don't buy the $40 dollar jacket and skirt that will fall
