Poetry: Death of a child

Wings of Love

I sit here under the skies above
watching the world go by.
I just don't understand
why you left me alone
I am so empty and dark.
I close my eyes and begin to cry
why? why? oh why?
I feel you around me
this feeling of peace and love
You're light so brightly surrounding me.
I can see you like a dream
but it can't be you that I see
right here beside me.
How can this be?

Softly I hear you whisper to me
"keep your love, keep your light,
you'll never see the darkness of the night."
A lonely tear falls upon my cheek
its you that I miss, your love
so rare and so pure.

You were my baby sent from the heavens above.
I loved you and nurtured you
I gave you all of me.
I became a Mom
with you I had such a bond.
You were my little Angel of love
in this world of loneliness and darkness.
My life I lived for you.

Then upon me came the darkest day.
Without my permission, you were taken away.
You went to the heavens above.

So how can it be you here by my side?
How can this be true?

Ever so gently I feel your loving embrace
It's pure and gentle and full of love.
I can feel your love and light.
Shining so radiantly and bright.

I close my eyes and look up to the skies.
Tears are now flowing from my eyes.
I receive a gentle kiss upon my cheek,
you wipe my tears with one soft touch.
I can here you softly say
"Mom, I am with you today.
I need to tell you something if I may."

I am sorry that I couldn't stay,
I love you complete and true.

It just wasn't my time.
When I left this place here with you,
only my body died.
My soul, my spirit is very alive.
I live in your love and your light.
Mom, you will be all right.

I traveled to the heavens above
on the wings of love.
I am alive, I am a spirit now,
when the time is right for me
I will come back to thee.
I will never stop loving you
this is so true.

You gave me the most precious gift
in the entire world, A Mother's Love.
Just know I will always be near
in the beauty of your love
and the brightness of your light.
I love you, Mom.

Now weeping I fall to my knees.
Then as quickly as you appeared
you left yet again. As softly and
quietly as this breeze.
As I stay here on my knees I cry,
"I love you" then I sigh.

In Memory of my Darling Niece,
Taken suddenly by Crib Death
at the age of 3 Months.
