I remember those ocean blue twilight skies
in the sunshine state of California
as a child i played in fields of grass
and rode my bike in the streets of Pacoima.
It was never a boring day for my brothers and I
break dance music and spanish flies,
black dahlias and lotus roses
captivated the sight of young male children;
though all of the same kind,
but different in gender
we mingled until dusk of dark.
Always anticipating December
Christmas unbound the child's imagination
and in Spring kytes soared high,
yet the summer brought the first crush
all so sweet in the touch of a butterfly.
Those were the years of dreams,
and golden moments
when all could be accomplished
in the gentle aura,
under the skies of California.

We used to sit
On the worn-out carpet
In the hallway
And listen
While she'd play
Masterpiece after masterpiece
