Your dream job

in these areas, leading to their being in special literacy classes in secondary schools, where they cannot cope with the lowest set. There are students reaching six form level not knowing what the term "universal" means. This Is unacceptable In my opinion.

Within my dream job, little ones were not snowed under by homework, there was no need for lessons In "happiness", counsellers etc. They were simply allowed to be children.

Where have the bright young faces eager to learn disappeared to? Sadly this does not describe the average child any more. Boredom has replaced enthusiasm in many cases granted not all. I would wish for a class of attentive students, so that I could extend their knowledge, and have a class of respectful students, so I could be free to teach. In the past teachers were rewarded by their efforts, and could see the progress. There was strict discipline (although to be fair I do not approve of canings, rulers across the back of the legs and blocks of wood thrown at the pupil's heads in woodwork lessons). Discipline can be maintained by warnings, stern no nonsense attitudes, or by popularity. I have experienced great teachers who never experienced disciplinary problems, however they are growing scarce. Hence my dream job is but a dream, locked in the past.
