Most skaters aren't thugs or punks, but people have come to think that they all are. This is because of the content skate shows or videos have had. Al ot of pros have been in jail or either drunk in public, or caught using drugs. I believe not all skaters are the thugs and punks people say they are. Because I'm a skater and Ive been skating since i was five or six.
Pros have set a bad example in some cases as how they act in public or in life alone. Like Viva La Bam, in this show fellow skater am Margera is followed by a camera crew as he goes around his daily life destroying his home and terrorizing his parents. This has set a bad example for kids and teens as skaters. Some may follow and be bad and turn into thugs. Some, well in my perspective most wont follow that way, or become a thug or punk skater.
I think all this thug and punk skater stuff has to do with stereotyping. People that stand and watch skaters and how they dress or skate. They automatically point fingers at the skaters. Just because of there style and look. Why do they do this? Is it because they wanna excel in something active? Or because they just love to have fun? It seems like people just wanna ruin skating forever. I mean what's so bad about it? Kids just want to have fun, stay fit, and learn how to do something enjoyable.
Have you noticed that you never see NO FOOTBALL signs or NO BASEBALL signs. Its always NO SKATEBOARDING. If was up to me skateboarding should be allowed, because a stray football or baseball could hit a car or building and dent or even break a window or hit a pedestrian. And those are being thrown. At least skateboarding are kept better under control with out leaving the feet of a skater or if they fall maybe with in three feet of them. I mean i would rather learn how to ride and skateboard and get adrenaline of flying through the air then to play with balls. I mean I'm not saying I don't like sports. I play soccer and i do track in discus. Sports are great, but my favorite one is skateboarding and i will stand up for what I want.
Now I believe its stereotyping once again. Skaters should not be put down by our society. There just like everybody else. Except they like skateboarding. Now is that really so bad that people have to put them down constantly? I dont think so. And thats why I believe skaters are put down by so many people. So please take this into consideration, that skaters should not be stereotyped or put down longer. We need to stand up for this. And not be let down,
