Poetry: Sad endings

A Father's Loss of a Daughter

Company closure takes away my job,
But one more face in the unemployed mob.
Social welfare offers but ten percent,
Barely can I even pay the rent.

No more under-table money to the ex;
Daughter from me, taken to soothe her vex.
Paternity test and courts say she's not mine.
Daughter of my heart, for you I pine.

One week day night, one weekend day,
Forever lost. Oh, how I pay.
No more to see her brightest smile,
Sadness buries me underneath its pile.

No more ringa-ringa-rosy upon the bed,
Nor shoulder-riding girl gleefully clasping my head.
No more posing for her photos in the playground,
No cheerfully shambolic lounge where her toys abound.

No-one else no longer sees her.
My grief, my burden, alone I fear.
None to share the sorrow breaking me;
Let sleep persist, no more waking me.
