Poetry: The life we leave behind

by Dominique. White

Created on: March 07, 2009

What is my legacy going to be

When I die what will people say about me

Will they be stricken with grief

Or secretly let out a sigh of relief

Will they realize that I tried to live with love

I tried to be someone that God and I would be proud of

Will they see that I did care

When dark clouds arose I tried to be there

Will they say I was that kind of friend

One you could depend on until the world's end

Will they say that in my own small way I changed the world

This small town, dreamer, proud southern girl

Most of all I hope they would say

That through me they witnessed God's love in the most beautiful way

Every now and then the thought crosses my mind

I wonder what my legacy will be, what will I leave behind
