There is nothing worse for a parent than finding out your child has something that might take his young life. The world stops and all energy is focused on saving the child. My son is one of those children. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor. However, he was forced to spend six months of his young life going to Doctors before he was finally diagnosed with the tumor.
Perhaps I should start at the beginning off his story. My son, Josh, was eight years old when we made our final move back to Pennsylvania. We spent his first eight years of life moving from one military post to another due to my husband being in the Army. We even had the opportunity to live in Germany for three years.
After our final move In July, we did all the normal things people do when finally settling into a permanent home and life. As the school year started and my sons found themselves in a regular routine, I started getting regular phone calls from school stating Josh threw up and I needed to pick him up. It seemed there was no rhyme or reason for his bouts of vomiting, so I took him to the Doctor. The doctor said it was nothing, and suggested we remove fresh farm milk from his diet. As the weeks progressed, so did his vomiting, as well as added head aches. We took him to the emergency room on a weekend where we were told it was nerves due to being in a new school. I didn't buy it. Josh was the most out going, friendly, person I Knew. He made friends everywhere he went. and othing ever bothered him. After the ER visit we spent many more days going to the school to pick Josh up due to vomiting. The head aches were getting worse and we were making weekly visits to the doctors office.
By February the vomiting and pain were becoming a daily occurrence. Josh was not the little boy I used to know and I decided I wasn't leaving the doctors office until they found what was wrong. They decided to humor me and do a CAT scan and upper GI. The appointments were scheduled for that day. Josh went in for a CAT scan and we were told we would be called with the results in three days. We where called in about an hour and asked to come back to the doctors office. The doctor asked us to sit and I started to get a little worried. He started to talk and what he said made my world stop and cave in around me. My son had a brain tumor the size of a softball, and also had a small hole in the side of his skull in which the tumor had eaten through. I was a zombie, hearing the words spoken to me, unable to comprehend,
