The Mighty Pen
When I was in secondary school, a teacher asked the class "What is the most powerful weapon in the world?" After a lively discussion, the class agreed on nuclear weapon. After all, the nuclear weapon possessed the ability to destroy the whole Planet Earth.
"Wrong, the most powerful weapon is this Pen," claimed our dear teacher. We all laughed.
To us, the pen (the red pen that he was holding) meant Pass or Fail in our examinations. We did agree that it was powerful. That stupid looking red pen could hold us back a year, made us repeat the whole academic year. But we did not realize how important the pen was, is and will be in the future.
At that time I was too young to appreciate his words. Now I realize that he is right, a pen is really a powerful weapon. Even though nuclear weapon sounds very scary, nobody in the world dares to use it to destroy the Planet Earth yet.
For example, when a baby is born, what is the most important thing that parents must do? It is to obtain birth certificate for the dear baby. The mighty pen is used to sign on the birth certificate. With the birth certificate, the dear baby becomes a legal citizen of the country. He will enjoy the rights of citizenship.
The time will come when we are ready to meet our Creator and play mahjong at our heavenly home. We are officially "dead" only when death certificate is issued. So even though we are happily playing mahjong in heaven, we are not certified "dead" if death certificate is not signed.
Our family cannot proceed to cremate or bury our lifeless body without the death certificate. Sigh, we need the mighty pen to give us permission to be "dead".
The pen is one such powerful equipment, able to certify birth and death. It is also used to bind man to woman, woman to man in the most sacred marriage arrangement. Sorry to say to all married folks, the wedding rings are not binding, but the signatures on the marriage certificate are. Again, thanks to the mighty pen.
Everyday, the pen is used by President, Prime Minister and Ministers to endorse the policies that could affect hundreds, thousands even millions of people in the world. Everyday the pen is used in the business world to legally bind the contracting parties. Everyday the pen is used by teachers to grade the students, deciding who can proceed to next level of study and who cannot.
So how can we use the most powerful weapon in the world? That's easy, help your boss to write the check and ask him to sign his fortune away! That particular signature can make you rich!
