Antioxidants are chemical substances, such as vitamin E, vitamin C, or betacarotene, acclaimed to protect body cells from the damaging effects of oxidation. Oxygen is good for the body, but just as rust is dangerous to metal, so is too much oxygen harmful to our body. Oxidants reduce the effectiveness of our body system. Antioxidants are naturally occuring phytonutrients found in some fruits and vegetables. Consuming foods rich in antioxidants, taking a natural antioxidant supplement and drinking plenty of water are necessary for wellbeing.
Carotenoid rich fruits have been researched to contain high antioxidants. The anti-aging benefits of antioxidants found in carotenoids (foods containing carotene) have been found to slow down the spread of or incidence of cancer, impotence, eye diseases, heart diseases, and dieases of the immune and nervous systems. Fruits such as the berries (for example strawberries), citrus (orange), grapefruit, grapes, tomatoes, spinachs, carrots, raisins, apricots, broccoli, nuts and cucumber are good sources of antioxidants for our body. Bananas, apples, potatoes, lettuce and watermelon which are very common in our houses are low in carotene level.
Diets rich in antioxidants and highly potent antioxidants supplements have been proven to: slow down the aging process of organs in the body and skin cells; lower risk of both cancer and heart disease; boost immune system to resist colds, flues and viruses; support healthy vision and protect against aging eye diseases.
Age is a relative period from the beginning of existence of man or things to a reference point in their life. It is the lenght of time during which a being or thing exist. To age is to grow old. We talk of aging man, aging car, aging city etc. When we pass through times in life, our physiology, psychology and sociology change over time and there are signs of the changes of growth showing all over us. This phenomenon of undergoing changes is rapid in some people than others.
Oxygen is the most essential gas of life, bu too much oxygen is harmful to the body, it affects our joints and functioning of the organs just as rust affects the wheel of machines. This is the area antioxidants in our diets help cure aging. Oxidation cause rusting of metals, same way it causes system rust in our body. Antioxidants have been proved to fight against humman cells from oxidation damages, which causes rusting and corrossion of both our body and brain (aging).
To fight aging, man must fight oxidation of his cells through antioxidants suplements, which are readily available in the markets in a natural form, indulge in regular exercise, take adequate sleep and have good brain development exersice like reading and writing. Fibre-rich foods are also good in reducing stretch marks. Carotene is in form of vitamin which must not be subjected to heat to derive its maximum benefits. Heating carotenoids reduces their effectiveness.
It is the best to eat these anti-oxudants in the early hours of the day before taking food. They digest well when we take plenty of water after eating them before eating foods.
