It has also been discovered that our fellow humanoids, the Neanderthals, who disappeared somewhere around 20 to 35 thousand years ago, also used tools and fire, and performed rituals for their dead. While it's not out of the question that our departed brothers and sisters were also of alien origin, or that the otherworldly intervention took place before our split from Neanderthal, it seems more likely that the Neanderthals are not only evidence that sophisticated hominids can evolve from simpler life, but that culture and language can too. The amazing complexity we herald as proof of something special about our species is probably a better testimony to our egos than to our origin being anything from out of this world.

It would be unfair not to acknowledge the body of evidence that hints at regular visits by what can only be described as alien beings. What is a chariot in the sky, from out of which comes an angel, if not a spacecraft piloted by an alien? People didn't know there were other worlds until a few centuries ago, so it stands to reason that an alien visitation would be described in terms of the Heavens, and craft described as chariots. The stories of invaders from another world in ancient Sumerian and Hindu texts have a certain Independence Day-esque ring to them. Perhaps the most compelling evidence can be seen in the form of what appear to be alien beings or spacecraft in art ranging from ancient cave drawings through to modern canvasses. Once discovered, these facts really leave one scratching one's head, but they are not evidence that humanity was created by extraterrestrials. It is far simpler, if perhaps less fun, to believe that we really are just smart apes.
