Money is the root of all evil

Money is not the root of all evil. Greed is. Money is just a tool that greed uses. Money is often assumed to be the root of evil simply because with it a person can buy things. Money can make life comfortable to those who have it or miserable to those who do not.

Many things are considered evil. Rape, molestation, and abandonment are evil. Yet, they are not truly affected by money. Money does not cause rapes. Greed and lust do. Wanting something and taking it. Money might have helped to pay for a prostitute, but in the end, it is not the reason for rape. This same understanding applies to molestation.

People like to claim money as the reason for abandoning animals and children. This is not true. Many people just do not want to deal with the stress, or time lost, to deal with a child or an animal once it passes the "cute" phase. Others want what is best for their child. Wanting what is best for a child includes money. However, money is only one of the things considered. Things like the lifestyle - which also is affected by money - time, and even love are considered as well.

People claim money is the reason that they hold people up, or rob banks. This is true. Because without money, they cannot buy the things that they need. Some people carry it too far and want more than they have. Usually in a case like that, they only want a quick get-rich scheme. This is caused by greed when it goes that far. However, there are people who will hold someone up at the point of a knife just to get a dollar for a loaf of bread.

Money can buy things like fast cars, huge homes, and TVs that never are turned on. Greed spurs the purchase. People will break into another person's home not only to possess the "nice" things someone else has, but also to sell it for money. That money is then used to pay for a "need" like drugs or alcohol. Rarely, are items stolen to help a family in need.

However, money also can do good. Giving money to a needy family, to a cause, or even to a charity to help others is a wonderful thing. Sadly, even this can be greed motivated. By donating, a person is noticed, they get their name, and their abilities put in the limelight. This notice usually comes with a pay raise. Rarely does someone, who truly wishes to contribute, take acknowledgment for doing what is right.

In the end, money can help or hinder in the name of good and evil. It is a distraction and a tool that is used for greed. Greed is what can make the economy suffer.
