DRUGS, GADGETS AND OUR ECONOMY
If you are in a severe accident or have a communicable disease, you are lucky to live in this country. Our trauma surgery and bug poisons are the best in the world. If you have a degenerative disease however, you are in trouble. 80% of all deaths in this country are the result of degenerative diseases, and all that our doctors are taught (and all HMO's allow time for) is symptom treatment with prescribed drugs. Eliminating causes and then helping the body to heal itself nutritionally appears to be a lost art.
Our allopathic (Drugs-R-Us) medical system is composed of two branches. The gadget branch and the drug branch. The gadget branch (diagnostic and repair equipment and procedures) includes our hospital facilities with their X-ray, sonogram, MRI, CAT and PET scans, operating rooms, defibrillators, heart pumps and pacemakers, dialysis machines, prosthetics, anesthetics and every conceivable type of medical gadget and paraphernalia they can fit into their expensive real estate.
The gadget branch utilizes outrageously expensive equipment to pigeon-hole all illnesses into little boxes, so any doctor can now plug the code name of this "symptom group" into software supplied by the drug vendor and find out what is currently being promoted for it (or what is being pushed by the visiting drug salespeople). The drug branch now takes over and treats these symptoms.
Note the terms TREAT (synonyms: cope with, manage, care for, medicate, amuse, humor), and SYMPTOMS (Webster: "Something that indicates the existence of something else"). My definition would add, "outward signs the body gives you that it needs inner attention." The drug-based branch of allopathic medicine is designed to TREAT (medicate) patients by suppressing SYMPTOMS (indicators). In other words, we turn off the fire alarm, instead of using this vital information to find out where the fire is, and then extinguish it! Or if the red oil light indicator comes on in our car, we cover it with a piece of black tape so we can continue driving.
Treating symptoms, however, is the way that capitalistic medicine survives and prospers. You cannot cure (or HEAL, if you prefer that term) people with drugs, but you can placate symptoms nicely, by stopping pain, lowering mucus formation, blood pressure, temperature, cholesterol or inflammation, shrinking swollen airways and blocking vital functions, or by cutting out and replacing joints and other body parts, or destroying problem areas with
