Poetry: Lonely Christmas

Christmas Sorrow

Burnt candles on the table, ornaments shattered on the floor, a stack of boxes left unwrapped piled up from years before.

The lights no longer glow, the tired garland has lost its shine, a little drummer boy no longer beats in time.

It's Christmas on the outside, so say the friendly folk. It's Christmas around the world, but in here you'd never know.

I hear the church bells ringing, calling out for me to come. I don't feel like rejoicing, my heart is cold and numb.

With weeping eyes I remember you, so beautiful, so brave. I relive our memories fearing someday they might fade.

The clock ticks to midnight, I'm pulled back from the past. Another year without you, the time went so fast.

I turn down the lights and crawl between empty sheets. I blow a kiss to you, I miss you. I cry myself to sleep.
