The effect of weather on mental health

if our electricity or gas goes out. Pipes may freeze and we may have no water. Showering or bathing in cold water gives us the chills even thinking about it. The possibility of an avalanche in the mountains while skiing is there so we must be extremely alert and take all precautions to survive. Being outside with extreme cold can cause our eyelids, fingers, and toes to freeze. Bitter cold is a matter of survival and survive we must. Then there are the icestorms!

Those who have to endure the brutal winters also have to deal with shorter days. Light gives us a sense of well being and makes it easier to move about. There is only so much one can do outside in the winter so we began to get that cabin fever as we feel cooped in, no matter how big our house is. We end up staying in for lunch at work too.

Mild weather is what most people like but most of the world does not have it. We feel comfortable with not much clothing and can be very productive so we feel good about ourselves in having accomplished a lot at work and our other responsobilities in our personal life. We can also enjoy a lot of sports and exercise as well as doing so many fun things. On the other hand we can't all move to Santiago or other areas in the world where the weather is perfect.

Volcanoes, earthquakes, psunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, avalanches, heavy snow, snow storms and other extreme weather donditions remind us how weather can alter our life or even take our life and the life of those we love. The power of nature can overcome us but luckley most of us do not experience the violence of nature. Dealing with the forces of nature is just part of life. Most people overcome the forces of nature. Weather can change and affect our well being but for the sake of our well being the sun must shine all the time within us.
