Improving the fuel economy of your car

of caution. Do not overinflate your tires thinking they will eventually leak some air and come down to recommended levels. Overinflated tires can cause variety of problems as well from excessive vibration your vehicle is subjected while in motion (loss of cushion effect) to difficulties in steering and breaking and in extreme cases tire rupture. You should always inflate your tires only according to your car manufacturer's recommendation.

When replacing tires always match the size of tires that the vehicle's manufacturer recommends. Installing wider or narrower tire size than that recommended by manufacturer can cause the vehicle to burn more fuel as well as to develop other problems (unpredictable breaking patterns, etc). Also never mix and match tires with different thread patterns. If you must install different tires on your vehicle at least make sure that tire threads match on both front tires as well on both back tires (front tires should be both of same thread pattern and depth, rear tires too should be of same thread pattern and thread). However the best and safest recommendation is to replace all four tires with same thread at same time (therefore making the thread wear the same on all four wheels).

3) Planning and Combining Your Trips.

80% of all vehicles driving on the typical street are occupied by a single occupant. Yet the car driving one or four people will consume about same amount of fuel (a bit more if more people are riding due to extra weight).

-Where possible try to organize your trip more efficiently. When driving to work car pool. This will save you and other persons pooling not only on gas but also on vehicle maintenance costs.

-Think before you drive. Combine multiple tasks into a same trip. Driving five times to and from the grocery store will take five more times the fuel than if you plan and combine your trip into a single one.

-Do not forget, you can still walk. If the trip will take you just around the corner you do not need to drive. Walk. This will save you on fuel as well as keep you in shape. This suggestion may sound silly when you read it but ask yourself how many times you had done it? How many times you could have just walked for few minutes to get where you needed to go but instead you selected to drive?

-Use public transportation where possible. A bus trip may cost you two or three dollars. The same distance by car may cost you twice or three times that. Where possible use the public transportation instead of driving. Many
