Stress! Ohhh Don't tell me! This word makes me shiver. Because I think I am the only one who's got it. Getting up at 5 each and every morning, saying my morning prayers, making my breakfast, getting all ready to go to university is in itself very very stressful. Then comes the greater stress of concentrating on four vast and critical courses and my day's over. I spend twelve whole hours in my university and sometimes even more than that. What happens after reaching home? I am so tired and stressed out all over that I don't have the energy or spirit to do anything else. I somehow manage to have my dinner and then off to bed. But I believe there's more to life than this. This can't constitute a person's entire life. Obviously life is more than stress it also constitutes of fun, enjoyment, being free spirited, being social and making merry. And this can only be achieved through managing stress by the eleven ways stated below:
(a) Whether you are a student or an office employee please don't pile up your work. Try to finish a day's work within the same day. If a student does not review what he/she has been taught in the same day then he/she face excessive pressure of reviewing the lessons right before exams which cause immense stress.
(b) Go to bed early and rise early. In this way you have sufficient rest and all set for the challenges of the upcoming day. Make sure that you have at least eight hours sleep to refresh all your body cells and wake up with a clear brain.
(c) After waking up say prayers and take a walk or mild exercises in the fresh air outside.
(d) Don't overeat and always eat healthy and nutritious foods which give you energy and combat stress e.g. eggs, milk, fishes, meat, vegetables and fruits. Eat starch and other fatty foods to a very limited amount.
(e) A lot of us have the tendency to drink tea or coffee to overcome the drowsiness that we feel after having little or no sleep spending most of the night working for a project or report. This should be highly avoided because it has been discovered through scientific studies that the cocoa from coffee and the liqour of tea weakens the nerves and cause greater tension and stress.
(f) After having a very stressful day you feel very exhausted but even within all your exhaustion you should always manage to spend quality time with your near and dear ones by going to the movies, going shopping, going to fast food chain stores and others. Doing this relieves stress and reduces burden.
(g) After returning home from a day's work you should first relax for half an hour then do other stuffs e.g. change clothes, wash yourself or take a bath etc.
(h) Develop the habbit of reading on whatever topic which interests you most.
(i) Give opportunities to your hobbies to strive and flourish and don't bury them in the midst of all your stress. Some people find relief and relaxation through painting, some through writing novels, newspaper journals, some through traveling and attending picnics in the green open fields, some through sports e.g. playing tennis, cricket. golf, football etc. an so many more. Peforming your hobbies relieves you of stress.
(j) Take professional meditation or yoga courses to know tha art of managing stress effectively.
(k) For married couples the most effective way to reduce stress is to have regular sexual intercourse which enhances love and affection between them and also creates better mutual understanding.
Try these and have a nice day!
