Ways to save water at home

are sold and buy one to use for a dish pan. Instead of using the sink to wash dishes in and letting the water run down the drain, wash the dishes in the tub and take the water to water plants or any other purpose you need it for.

Save in Food Prep

When preparing vegetables for the table it is important to wash them well. Be mindful of when the time the water is running the vegetables are under the water and make sure to turn the water off when you have to put one handful down to pick up another. It takes some time to retrain your hand and brain to work together so this becomes habit and lifestyle, but soon you will be able to do this practice without thinking about it.

When pealing potatoes, run a bowl of water to rinse the pealed potatoes in after pealing. They just need freshening up after one has taken the dirty pealing off. Any food where the peal is removed can be washed with a very small amount of water in a bowl instead of under running water. Don't pour the water down the drain. Water the plant on the window seal or thrown the water out on the dry grass. Get in the habit of using water for something instead of throwing it out.

Here, again you have the water contained for use later instead of letting it go down the drain. Bathtubs are close enough to the commode, if one needed to, this water could be poured into the tank of the commode to flush the commode. There is a shut off valve on the commode tank to turn the water off in the tank so one can use gray water in the commode when needed.

When showers are taken, turn the water on and get soaked. Turn the water off and get soaped. It's not as much fun and it doesn't feel as soothing, but you get clean and there's some water left for tomorrow. That's what this is about today.

When using the water to wash hands and to brush teeth everyone knows it is important to turn the water off until it is needed. Some think that it is too little saved to make a difference. It would be if one time was all one was going to do it, but water conservation
