How to create multiple streams of income working from home

by Marie Bywater

Working from home is becoming increasing common amongst stay at home mums, dads, and students who are looking to earn either an income or a little bit of extra cash. Nowadays many of us tend to find it an uphill struggle to make ends meet so any extra cash earned is a bonus. If you are wishing to commence a career working from home you should pursue many options to give you multiple sources of income. It is always best to keep your options open as online jobs tend to be temporary and less secure than offline jobs; as they say do not put all your eggs in one basket'.

I find the best sources of income online are freelance writing, google adsense, affiliate marketing and perhaps surveys depending on your location. If you can balance these four activities successfully then you will be well on your way to having multiple streams of income.

Freelance writing is my favourite pastime and there are many sites which will either pay you an upfront payment and/or a payment for each page view you get. The best writing site to express your self and earn an income is helium. Initially the reward will be small but after spending time updating your article collection and through promotion of your articles the daily page view revenue will soar. Additionally as you earn more writing stars your upfront payments will increase giving you a higher income. With more confidence you may take place in the writing contests and submit articles to the marketplace. Success in either of these two activities brings greater earnings than that of the upfront payments, with contest winners being paid $60 and publishers paying anything from $20 to $200 for articles. However feel free to explore other writing sites such as associated content, bright hub, constant content, demand studios and any others you come across. Writing jobs are in high demand on elance and getafreelancer where you can work for specific employers completing a set task.

Google adsense is another highly paid avenue. Adsense ads can be displayed on your blogs and websites, and whenever someone visits and clicks on one of your ads you make money. Sounds pretty simple but in actual fact there is a lot of work involved. Initially while you are getting upfront payments and page view earnings from your articles your blogs and website may be earning you nothing. It takes a while for your blog to be indexed and found by google search engines. You have to add a mass of quality content with correct keyword density, as well as creating back links to get targeted traffic. However when the traffic starts to flow there is the option of adding related affiliate products where you will receive a commission for each product sale. Blogging can be extremely profitable and should be undertaken as a long term earning project.

Survey sites are another way to earn some dollars online. I am from the UK so I find my options here are limited, however I do know from some of my American colleagues that surveys can net them a few hundred dollars a month. Therefore if you are from the USA I would suggest exploring this further.

The key to maintaining several freelance jobs is time management. I would recommend you plan your day ahead and divide your time according to the workload involved with each site. For instance if you are working on a site which pays you $10 per article and another that pays you $2 per article you should invest more time and effort into the higher paying site initially, and then when you have exhausted your daily options on this site you should move to the lesser paying sites. This way you can maximise your income, whilst still earn from more than one source.
