Will less macho men make guns obsolete? That is a very interesting question. Interesting because I think that it suggests. That men now a days are less manly than they were in the past. I think there is some definite truth in that. It seems as though society has changed so drastically from the time I was in school. Just to be clear, I am in my mid twenties. Not what most would consider old. It has been a significant amount of time when looked at in terms of change, and not just years. In the late nineties there was no such thing as a "Metro Sexual". There was simply the guys who everybody just thought was gay. That too was something people didn't speak to like they do today. I guess men have been getting less manly for some time.
If one were look at the situation, I believe one would see the manliness decline. As laziness and self entitlement have increased. The average high school aged male today is pampered. Without any demands upon them, other than school. They are left to text their friends from their IPhones and schedule their salon appointments. I don't know of any high school aged boys who even know how to change the oil in their car. This change as I see it is bad. Society has done what they can to erase genders, races, and character. What we are left with is a generation that is fairly useless, and out of touch from reality. As much as I'd like to say society is the cause for this de-manning of our nations future men. They are raised by the hippy generation that doesn't believe in parenting. They also seem to have a problem with traditional roles for men and women.
So back to the question. I believe the answer is guns will never be obsolete. There is an old saying that says "Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst". This old bit of advice is relevant in this scenario because it makes the point. That just because our boys are getting soft. Doesn't mean the son's of America's enemies are getting soft. I myself own guns, and do consider them a means to keep my family safe. However, I don't see them to be barbaric or uncivilized. They are a birth right passed down through generations. They are a tool for father and son, (or daughter) to bond and learn respect for the tools that fed generations of settlers, won the west, and delivered us as a nation from the oppressive British.
In closing, I would say guns are never going to be obsolete. We can hope that man starts doing better by his fellow man. Until then the need for guns will always be real. God save us if we ever lose sight of the good they have done.
