Navigating the journey of life

are here to navigate our life's ship in the direction of love, peace, joy, and fulfillment. This is the course all of us set before we were born.

The problem is simply that there are others involved in our life choices. I'm not speaking of people, groups, or organizations outside of the self. I'm talking about inner "others," parts of the self that are in conflict with our conscious goals, ideals, hopes and dreams.

You may have an injured child or a wounded adolescent who does not want to go in the direction you have chosen. They may still be living experiences and fears that you thought were long gone. While you may on the deck and holding the wheel firmly, there is a very large hold below you and it is peopled with fears, doubts, guilt, anxiety, shame, and regrets. If we are not on the proper course and can't seem to find it, it may be this multitude in our unconscious that is sometimes making our decisions for us.

How do we wrest control of our life and become the only navigator on board? We first must acknowledge these others who are trying to control our direction. When bad weather comes our way, we must try not to blame anyone or anything outside of ourselves but honestly and courageously look inside and ask, "What part of me is causing this?" If we're really honest, we can ask, "How is this negative event serving me? What is it protecting me from?"

As we open up to our multiple personalities, we can heal these hidden aspects one by one and withdraw their power to disrupt and divert us. They are actually stealing energy from us. As we consciously embrace them as a part of our whole self, we have more energy to create the life we seek.

Navigating one's life journey is not easy but it is worth working on. We can confront those aspects of the self that keep us from moving in the direction of our bliss and of the greatest utilization of our power. As adults, it may be that we really are gods and goddesses and our saboteurs in the ship's hold are really protecting us from dealing with that great power, beauty, and divinity.

The really tough question may be, "Do I really want to be the navigator of my life?"
