Employee Selectiion

Fitting employees is like a puzzle. Company employee selection begins with a full picture of the nature of the organization. The company's knowledge of the present company values, political climate and character traits can assist managers to find employees offer a proper fit. A misfit can decrease productivity that does not reflect badly on either the old or the new employee since the employees were not actually part of the same puzzle. If an employer needs to add someone who is not acutally a good fit, nbecause of their expertise they need to understand their puzxle .

Values

Many feel uncomfortable talking about values, but without reflecting on the values of the company, a manager might assume everyone shares the same values and that can cause a large mistake. You must understand the values of your present employees and the values of your customers. If someone cause tension in the workplace human resource directors are solving problems rather than exploring how to better provide training, and cost effect benefit packages.

Diversity in the market remains a goal while matching values since values are a personal item rather than a population characteristic. The challenge requires manager to look beyond the obvious and determine how to bring diversity within the values of the present customer and employee base. Have you heard anyone say I have learned to know someone and express surprise that the person was the same as him or her. The puzzle picture may change a little, but the fit remains.

Political Climate

Leadership style of management needs examination prior to beginning employee recruitment If most of the question during the interview centered on teamwork, but the company top down and the new team member comes to work expecting to make contribution immediately. A corporate salesperson stated that at an interview the head of a team asked if he would be offended that the closing of sales actually came from the top after negotiations from the salesperson. The corporate salesperson felt comfortable with the process since he felt it would provide support for implementing the sales contract. He actual saw it as teamwork because they would be on the same page.

Work Character

Employees that carry the same work ethic will keep the work flowing. If someone, does not value timeliness but employees insist on timeliness then others will be waiting or leaving meetings on schedule and frustration increases. Holes develop in the puzzle without a piece to fill the hole with productivity slowing.

If overtime fits within the lifestyle of the individual, or does not fit but is expected, the individuals try to fit. A woman left a job that required overtime to make an adequate salary. She left to take a salaried job because the job promised 9-5 schedule because she needed family time. After starting the job, she learned salary meant she was available to work all hours without reference to hourly wage. Her edges were in contrast to the edges of on her piece of the puzzle.
Companies need to know the nature of their work and the problems and the availability of the employees so they fairly paint the picture of the work.
