Pragmatically Speaking
Sometimes I know it'll all work out
Sometimes I know it doesn't matter at all
Between you and I, it'll come to fruition
Between you and I, we'll answer the call
I see that day when it all comes together
Surrounded by the ruins of a thousand new suns
Special are the times that happen so rarely
Divided by hours, by weeks, and by months
Sometimes we'll grow like a field of flowers
Surrounded by dust and tumbleweeds
There's no such thing as righteous contradictions
Such is the lesson of history
I see that time when the picture's complete
Surrounded by the patter of tiny little feet
Precious are the moments that mark the days
Punctuated by hope, by love, and by ways
So what if we never reach higher ground
The sun will still rise and set
And if we never find meaning profound
We'll still give much less than we get
Intimacy, illusive, like the howling wind
Seeking an angel in earthly clothes
And if we never bask in Heavenly light
It only assures our passion grows
Sometimes we'll swim in great revelation
Sometimes we'll drown in our ignorance
Between you and I, we'll find the patience
Between you and I, we'll find true bliss
I see that place where true peace resides
Surrounded by the struggles of father time
Magic is the journey that warfare denies
What a man seeks, so shall he find
So what if we never reach higher ground
The stars will still twinkle and shine
And if forever we're shackled and bound
We're still freer than all mankind
Liberty, fleeting, like a beam of light
An angel in earthly clothes, seeking
And if we never find Heaven on Earth
It's okay, pragmatically speaking
So what if we don't reach the speed of sound
We'll still meet at our destination
And if our fortress comes crashing down
We'll never lose our inspiration
Knowledge, expanding, like the universe
Just a man in earthly clothes, seeking
And if I never find Heaven on Earth
It's okay, pragmatically speaking
