Commentary: Balancing wealth among classes key to America's future

During a heated discussion about our fallen economy, one of my friends made a profound statement when he said 'Balancing wealth among classes is key to America's future." IF that could be done it would have a powerful effect on the ecomy and we could put our economy back in place quickly.

However, this being America, you will never get a wealthy person willing to divest himself of his wealth and share the money with everyone - it would never happen. No matter how someone gets his wealth, money is key to that person's life and "balancing wealth among the classes" is a thought the wealthy will never have or embrace.

As long as big business exists, the owners ( CEO'S) are in the business to make money. When a company does well, the CEO'S are paid a huge salary for "doing a great job" but the people who make the business successful do not enjoy that same generous paycheck or even bonuses. If the company doesn't do as well as before , it doesn't affect the CEO's, they collect their overinflated salaries anyway This holds true for everyone who is the head of any company and though it seems unfair, this practice has been going on for quite some time.

Union leaders and members would never consider sharing their wealth with others either. Union workers make far more money than the average non-union worker and they are happy to hold onto what they have. That unions with their high demands are destroying businesses is well known but nothing has been done to make union work with their employers rather than against them in contract negotiations.

We could balance the wealh among the classes easily IF we became a socialized country. Socialism is the best way to level the playing field and allow all people to have money, have good health care, enjoy home ownership and the people who had extra money could still get many things they want. However, it would be hard to get the wealthy to accept socialism so it will never happen.

At the point we are in our economy I believe that nationalizing all banks and making them loosen up credit lines, give out bank loans, make the banks be held accountable for every loan they give out, mandating that overpriced mortgages be reduced to all people who need help holding onto their homes - these are the first steps to take in order to get our economy back on it/s feet However, this too will most likely never occur as banks are unwilling to give up huge salaries and their bonuses. If they would consider the feelings of the people who are losing their homes due to lack of money it might help thm realize that these are people who are in trouble and need help but banks do not and will never consider a persons situation and want to help - they just want money.

There is no easy answer to the questions about our economy and the "easy answer" called socialism will never be accepted by the wealthy and we are left to muddle through this deep recession on our own. Sad commentary about a nation that brags about being "great" when truth be told, it is a failure and broke.
