Just the words middle aged, use to make me feel old. When I turned thirty, my family put signs, up and down the highway. Friends put a sign up, and had me a cake made, with the number thirty on it. Yes, at that time I felt like I would be forty, before I knew it. Each year after that, I would think of that one larger number, that would head me closer to forty.

When forty, crept up from behind, sooner than I would have liked. This time ,I felt happier, like I was turning over a new leaf, or something. I had conquered many things in my life by this time. I had a beautiful daughter, who from the age of three became disabled. She seemed fine at birth. She develop a virus, around three years old. Months later, my baby girl started doing strange hand movements. This took me on a long aging journey, that many people couldn't have handled. Doctors told me I must have been an angel, to be able to endure all this emotional pain.

My daughter is now twenty six, and lives with me at home. We have faced many trials together. My spirit was strong. I guess ,that's why people said, I looked so young. A Chiropractor once told me I was still around only by nervous energy. Yes, I took that nervous energy, and put it to good use. My daughter is twenty six now, and I'm fifty-four, and I still have my hurdles to jump, however I'm young, and I can handle it.

I'm fifty-four, and proud of it. I'm proud to be able to say my age now with much pride. I look back, and I say, "I don't want to be twenty, or thirty anymore. I'm happy to be fifty-four,and going strong". My dream has always been to be a writer, Years ago I took a class in Children's literature, hoping my dream would come true, however my daughter's illness kept me from doing so.

Close to a year ago, I got hurt bad, and was unable to go back to work. At this point of my life, I had to sit back and ask myself a few questions.

* What type of work can I do at my age?

* What type of skills do I have?

* I need a job that will last until, beyond retirement.

A few month ago I was introduced to Mona Vie, which has improved my health, and sense of wellbeing. My age feels great to me now, and I wouldn't want to be any other age, than I am right now. Each year that I grow wonderfully older, I know I'll be proud to say that number. It's that one more number, that will teach me many lessons, to share with the world.

I started writing for ehow, and then found another writing site called Triond. These writing sites taught me alot about friendships, and the start of what writing challenges are all about. I met people from all ages, from all around the world, however I was missing something. Total satisfaction wasn't there.

Then I found Helium! It didn't take me long to figure out where my destiny lied. I'm proud to say, that because I had these trials, I'm a stronger individual. I'm young, and full of life, and have many dreams, I hope to fulfill. My dream has started, I'm a writer. I want to write a novel some day. When this happens, I know Helium is the place where my age gave meaning.

Don't get me wrong I know the reason behind why I'm still adding years onto my life. God has helped me through all my fifty-four years of my life. I know he helped me find Helium, and my success is all to his glory.

Every night I thank God, for allowing me one more day to live, and be his servant. I pray to wake up, and thank him for one more day. Yes, one one day to say I'm fifty- four, and proud of it.

Age is just a number. Believe these few words, and you will keep up with the world.

I've started a new chapter in my life writing here on Helium. My number on my birthday cake will change every year, God willing, however, my spirit will always stay young at heart.
