So, the DEFENSIVE missile shield in Poland and Czech Republic is opposed by Putin. Why? It reduces the receipt time for an OFFENSIVE missile launch against the West, both by Central Asia (IRAN, Pakistan) and by East Europe (Russia, Belarus). In perjorative and parochial fashion Putin has demanded the US preemptively end discussion with its Polish and Czech allies and dismantle all preliminary steps in the implementation of a program arrived at through treaty and negotiation. To the great consternation of most conservative American statesmen, Obama has declared that he is willing to horse trade NATO and EU security for Russian influence in pressuring IRAN to reign in their OFFENSIVE nuclear weapons program.

Yet disturbingly, IRAN now has fissionable material enough for 7 warheads courtesy of Comrade Putin's assistance in supplying nuclear fuel and refining centrifuges. IRAN has a viable delivery system in the Shahab-3 that can reach the EU and of course ISRAEL. IRAN only lacks the time necessary to join these materials and actually construct deliverable bombs. Where is the motivation for IRAN to comply and surrender what they have already gained; a nuclear terror threat in the Central Asian region.

How does weakening the DEFENSE of NATO and the EU convince Russia to pressure IRAN? Russia's own interest in using IRANIAN influence in containing the Chechnia Islamist revolt far outweigh's any fears Russia may have that Poland or the Czech Republic will utilize their DEFENSIVE systems to destabilize Russian sovereignty. Therefore Obama's unilateral offer to deconstruct this DEFENSIVE system along the East European border is mute, of no consequence to Putin, but instead becomes a poker chip that the Russians can now use to buy further time for the IRANIANS to actually build their bombs, and thus exchange for some measure of peace on their own Islamic borders. More disturbing is Putin's apparent calculation that every delay in the implementation of this DEFENSIVE shield allows the opportunity for IRAN to further blackmail the West, thus facilitating the IRANIANs in achieving Amadinijad's stated goals - the destruction of Israel, and the subjugation of the West to Islam.

Russia may think they are trading a Chechnian peace for a subjugated EU, but they are only buying a small breathing space before the Islamist revolt again knocks at the door of the Russian Steppes. Most disturbing of all is Mr. Obama's unilateral collusion in destabilizing the Western and Israeli interests of DEFENDING themselves against the terror coming out of Central Asia and East Europe. It would seem that the long range goals of those who financially backed Obama's election to the Presidency of the United States (the Saudi Royals, George Sorros, others?), do not serve the interests of Western Civilization, or Peace.

It would further seem that Russia's reliance on Putin's patrimony to achieve preimmenence over a subjugated EU is equally misguided and serves neither the West's nor Russia's best interests. Perhaps it is only miscalculation and not patrimonial arrogance that drives Putin's playing off the EU against IRAN, while using the US as their foil. None the less such consequences for Peace and any world wide stability may be incalculabley negative.
