Living in Wyoming, People don't camp simply to go into the mountains and escape the city like most of America. Wyomingites rather head into the mountains because its something they have always done, and will continue to do. It is true that most people head up on a paved county road, turn off on a dirt road that they fallow for maybe 4 miles, then set up camp at a State area. To me this is not camping, and most defiantly not "roughing" it. All they are doing is Driving to a place that many people have seen before, and laced with all the commodities and comforts of home. If you really want to see the jewels of area your living in, you will have to go off the beaten path, and explore. The town that I call home is in the Big Horn Mountain range and is home to some of the best hiking around. You can choose to go up paths made by the forest service to get to areas that few people have seen. You carry everything on your back that you will need, and camp in an area that has no comforts of home. In essence you are like the original mountain men, but with a few better things at your disposal. Basically, if you feel like getting out into Mother Nature, but don't want to leave your house, pack up your belongings and head up the paved road towards the mundane. But if you want to experience Mother Nature in all her beauty and "rough" it, get a map of a National forest and have an adventure. Because if your "roughing" it or not, camping is still camping and there is nothing like it.
