The founder of Christianity, Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, said of himself, " I am the way, the truth and the life". Jesus Christ is the Life. The antithesis of life is death, and to carry the reality of life and death to ultimate reality, it is a struggle between the truth and the lie, the sublime and the profane, between good and evil. The last enemy of life who will be destroyed when Christ returns to establish his everlasting kingdom will be death. Life and death are always diametrically opposed. Either an individual, society or nation is devoted to the propagation of life or else it is contributing to the dissolution of life. A Christian cannot live in harmony with the Christ while embracing the violence of abortion. To believe other wise is to be quite simply deceived. Christ, who is life and who suffered humiliation, ridicule, rejection, torture and crucifixion; Christ, who creates, sustains and redeems life, demands that his faithful follow him. They must inculcate the attributes of God who is Life. By following him, the Christian is to be devoted to life, to sacrificial love. Killing the innocent as an excuse to eliminate the possibility of further abuse or neglect is an absurd, diabolical proposition. First, Christ demonstrates that being born into poverty and hostility is the norm rather than the exception. Next, Christ teaches by word and example that love, forgiveness, healing and a disciplined life that denies all forms of evil is the way. The act of deliberate killing of an unborn human being is so far removed from the mind of God that Christians must always find the conclusions posited in Roe vs. Wade a spurious at best.
Creation has evolved through millennia, and while the technical achievements of humanity mesmerize our contemporary culture, we nonetheless find the soul of humanity no more improved than that of our ancient predecessors. Technological advances have enabled the modern culture to forego killing with spear and rock replacing them with more efficient means, oftentimes incorporating surgical precision. Technological advancements, unprecedented wealth and astonishing power have done little or nothing to advance the heart and soul of humanity. Moral depravity contributes to pandemic diseases unknown to previous civilizations. Divorce and cohabitation destroys the environment in which children would otherwise be entitled to be nurtured by loving mothers and fathers.
