single player games, the first was playable in DoS mode in windows 3.1. That is a long time in the making of an epic story rich with lore enjoyable by any who are into this sort of thing. The other gaming companies fall a bit short, because they just didn't have this never ending resource of fiction, and bosses to bring to justice.
There have been two expansions to this game since it's release. The first The Burning Crusade, was a bit disappointing in some ways, and a god send in others. The disappointments was breaking away from lore a little bit to introduce two new races, the Dreanei and the Blood Elf's. It did help some of the guilds, because they had taken their dungeon raids from 40 players to 25. Let me tell you, finding 40 like minded players in a fantasy world of never ending possibilities was like trying to move Mount Everest with a bulldozer.
The second expansion Wrath of the Lich King was extraordinary. Never before was the player able to participate in the lore, really interact with it. The quests had been changed a little bit as well, so you were not just collecting things for the quest giver or chopping off someones head to complete. They really gave us something to sink our teeth into with this expansion. Adding to the map is always a sure way to bring players who have lost interest back, but to add so much actual content will surely bring them back, and invite many more to experience what is the best possible MMO out there, and I believe it will be for years to come.
