We see and hear it every day practically, some celebrity complaining that they can't have their privacy, that they are being hounded by the paparazzi. To be honest, in most cases, I don't have much sympathy, and the reason for that is that celebrities do control their fate for the most part. They don't have to put themselves in the limelight to become fodder for the tabloid media, any more than they have to find themselves faced by camera-taking entities every time they go out the door. Following are some suggestions for celebrities who truly want to retain their privacy.
-Don't live in the middle of a major studio hub, like Los Angeles or New York City. Find a place in the country or choose a home that's off the beaten path. Harrison Ford has a ranch in Wyoming, while Demi Moore raised her children in a small Idaho town. When these two A-list celebrities want to be seen, they come to Hollywood. Otherwise, they live quietly.
-Don't live the nightlife. The party scene is a prime attraction getter. If you want to party, invite some friends over to your home.
-Don't shop on Rodeo Drive, or any of the world's other main shopping drives. These places are staked out with paparazzi. There are plenty of other establishments to buy that bling and such. If you have to have it, hire a stylist or a Rachel Zoe type who will do the shopping for you. Ask them to come to you; many will. Have you heard of the internet? Great way to make your purchases without a camera in site, unless you have a webcam set up. Better yet, go to Kmart.
-Don't get in trouble. A lot of celebrities get themselves in the limelight for being stupid, i.e., breaking the law with drugs and/or alcohol. Be the role model you are. Keep your body healthy. Don't run the red lights, and don't drink and drive.
These simple 'don't's aren't all that hard to live by, especially for celebrities who take advantage of their options. Paul Newman was a matinee idol, as sexy and sought after as any of these party girls of today are. He lived in the limelight for a while, but once he married Joanne Woodward, he lived a relatively quiet life in Connecticut, even through his death, never actually admitting that he was ill. When he needed to be seen, he went to the media, but otherwise, he was happy to be away from the cameras. Likewise, his good friend and acting great, Robert Redford, has done the same thing, though on the western part of the state. Redford lives in Utah, high up on a mountain. When he has a message to deliver,
