Underground!
They'll re-surface in the next generation.
The previous two generations pushed for equality and, in many ways, achieved it.
MY generation is resting! Well I'm not, but I suppose it's only fair that most girls in their 20s think they can take a generation off from fighting the uphill struggle.
Trouble is, when the next one (or the next) stirs up feminism again, who will they blame for letting it fall? The majority of my generation for failing to keep up the fight, or the few of us who have valiantly tried - and often failed - to uphold women's rights?
Feminism shouldn't ONLY mean wanting equality with men. It should be an attempt to make 'being a woman' the 21st Century way to live; after all, we've had 20 centureis of men being in control. I'm not suggesting that we want superiority (for one thing, we don't want to be blamed when things turn out as badly as they have with men at the reins!), but we should be fighting to have the female way of things as a standard.
What I mean is that white, able-bodied, male, straight (wams) people are seen in society as the 'norm'. Why shouldn't wafs or even black, disabled, female, gay people be seen as the 'norm' and everything be made for them, with whites, straights and, most importantly, males be the people for whom special rules have to be applied?
So, it may sound as if feminists have disappeared because they have too many subjects to cover!
No, I'm thinking aloud. Those rights are in league with feminism. We don't all have to fight for them, just be aware that they are causes which exist.
But the feminists who have gone underground WILL resurface in even greater numbers than before when they finally realise that we do not have the equality they think we have.
When our dauighters and granddaughters question why boys never have to stand in line for a bathroom; why girls are criticised if they don't look their best, and boys aren't; why boys assume that computer games are for them, dolls for girls; why the world still expects girls to be the carers, cooks, cleaners, naqnnies, and housekeepers of society; and why boys aren't told off when they cause horrendous accidents but girls are criticised even if their stick shift misses a change! ETC
I've been told off at work for 'taking too long' in the bathroom - I 'm pretty sure that if men had to change tampons THEY'D take longer than me!
Oh yes, we'll be back - and this time it'll be personal!
