Making money online is a very popular subject. A lot of people dream about making a six figure income by spending a few hours per week at their laptop while sitting on the beach sipping a margarita. In reality though, it's not quite that easy. If it was, everybody would be doing it, right?

The fact is, you CAN make money online and you CAN get started very easily, but you're not going to get rich overnight. If you are serious about making money online, it's going to take time and work to build a successful online business. You will make money in direct proportion to how much time and effort you put into it, just like any business endeavor.

If your emphasis is on the "easy " part and you only want to spend a minimal amount of time and effort you can pick up a few extra bucks per month doing things like getting paid to read email and paid surveys and no, they are not scams. There are some scam sites out there but there are a lot of legitimate companies out there that will pay you to read email and take surveys. You won't make much more than a few dollars per month though so you're not going to get rich doing it but you don't have to put forth much effort either. You can sign up for free at any legitimate site too, so if they ask you for money, that's one of the scam sites.

If you have spend any time looking for ways to make money online you have no doubt seen the many sites that say you can make tons of money online by doing next to nothing. They usually show someone standing next to an exotic sports car in front of a huge mansion, trying to give the impression that if you only buy their business system, you too can have these things. Believe me, the mansion isn't owned by the person in the picture and the car is a rental.

Making real money online is going to involve pretty much the same as any other business and that's marketing or simply, selling. Whether you're selling your own products, someone else's or services of some sort, the most common way of making money is to sell something.

So let's take a look at some of the ways of making money. Probably the easiest way to get started is in an affiliate program where you sell other people's products. There are a lot of programs out there and some require a sign-up fee. Personally, I don't trust any program that asks me to pay for the privilege of selling their products. It's a sign that they make most of their money by collecting sign-up fees and not by selling. A legitimate business will let you sign-up
