Matthew Continetti in his article, "The Age of Irresponsibility," 03-02-09, is a breath of fresh air in these polluted times and sets the tone in moving into an age of responsibility. He is the William Buckley of today and in the future since he is only 27. Conservatism is alive and well today and will flourish in the future.
Miles interviewed him in QA and challenged him but Continetti rose up to that challenge. He is young, articulate, clear. and has a message for conservatives for America, and for the world. It is the way to go! The standard of behavior for politicians and the rest of us is what has been disappearing gradually nationally and internationally.
This standard of right and wrong has derived in humanity from before Plato to now and must be the measure of living for all people in all times. The collapse of this standard is the result of the economic collapse we are living in. However, the moral collapse is the most serious problem we face since it is the collapse of what it is to be our very best as humans yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Continetti is a master of words and articulates clearly what responsibility is in economics and in the rest of our personal life. For instance living within our means is being responsible. Working to pay for what we buy is. Paying our bills on time makes us financially responsible. This is good for individuals, business, and governments. Socialism, Communism, and Faschisim all have failed in Europe. Why do we want to go that direction now? Freedom is the way!
"The K Street Gang" is a book he wrote in "04"and was published by Doubleday. It has to do with the rise and fall of the Republican Party but it also gives the key to the come back. April 23, 06 he wrote an article, "Party is Over."
Matthew Contenetti defended former president George Bush after 911. Our country was in a trauma and he put in place national security policies which resulted in no further attacks in America while he was president. March 28, 03 Contenetti wrote an article in National Review, "Teach-in, Turn On, Walk Out, Pro-War." He points out that many will be surprised how President Bush will be viewed by historians in decades to come.
He is an outstanding young journalist for conservatives and challenges liberals. He has the depth and foresight to know the past, see the present, and point to the future of what is best for all of us. This takes courage and wisdom. Contenetti has both and more. He writes for the "Weekly Standard" but also has written for other magazines. He graduated from Columbia University in "03."
Matthew Contenitti is indeed a bright young star in journalism. He gives conservative hope for the future in the midst of hopelessness of the present. He is a mentor for those older than him who believe that man and woman are not only called to responsobility in their lives but to a higher standard Plato calls us to. Men and women are to do what is right. Truth and righteousness never change and all of humanity must strive for the ideal.
