Poetry: Separate ways

Too many friends I have lost along the way,
Too many friends have gone astray,
As I sit and ponder today,
Why did they have to go away?
Maybe it was something I said, something I'd done,
But they should now I never wanted them gone,
Never wanted this friendship torn,
Never wanted to be left alone.
Nothing has changed but nothing is the same,
Those who left, never again came,
As I stand there in wait,
Thinking maybe it is too late.
For me to realize that they never really went away,
It was I who just stood there like I stand today,
Refusing to move on, refusing to change,
Looking never beyond but only at the horizon in my range
As the waves crash against the stones,
leaving their impact forever on them,
but they must wash away back into the sea,
As that is where they belong,
But they take some particles forever with them,
As it for the little things that they will long.
