The Little Boy

-

A fathers wish, a little boy,

Hope has come in a bundle of joy,

Pink and warm, safe and sound,

Grow to prosper and abound.

-

Hope is dashed, a home is broken,

Fights ensue, words unspoken,

A boy cries in the corner, he doesn't know just how,

Divorce has come, what happens to him now?

-

A father he hardly knew,

A mother who is too confused,

He wants someone to see he's there,

He wants to run to find the arms that say, "I care."

-

He faces a hard world early,

Much earlier than he would like to see,

A cold, hard world with locks and chains,

He struggles to be free.

-

The fear of being all alone,

A fear of never knowing home,

A little boy lost to grow all on his own,

He struggles to know the answers, he struggles all alone.

-

Can you see this little boy?

Can you hear him cry inside?

Can you see this little boy,

As he sits there in the corner,

..trying just to hide.

-

Can you feel his tears,

..as they burn upon his cheek.

Can he tell you he's afraid?

Can he tell you he is weak?

-

His heart it tears inside of him,

..as he struggles to know why.

He struggles to find the answers,

He struggles not to cry.

-

The little boy grows,

..grows to be a man.

Still struggling to find the answers,

Still struggling to understand.
