Poetry: Everlasting embrace

by Heinz Ross

Created on: March 01, 2009

embrace

she said, good bye'
he called across the road, I love you'
she never heard the words

fast truck smashed into words,
wrapped round its bonnet
carried them
at high speed down the road,

she waved to him, he waved to her
each went their way, until
few seconds on
truck slammed the brakes

and words let go
flew off the bonnet
towards a kid that ran
to follow ball it kicked too far
wrapped words around him
gently
as last embrace
his mum no time to give
and then he bounced
just like his ball

sub tropic midday bitumen
hot like a frying pan
not a single mark is left
for show & tell
