Waking up in the morning. Making a cup of coffee. Getting ready for work. These are all things we consider as normal activities going on in just about every home during the course of a regular day. Having plans, goals, being able to lead a fulfilling life, facing obstacles in life head on all seem parts of life that can be managed and overcome. For some, these are things that seem so far away they will never be reached. Careers, school and relationships among other things can become so overwhelming that the person is paralyzed and cannot continue with their everyday activities.
Having a negative outlook on things, feeling lethargic and with no motivation can all be symptoms of depression or anxiety. According to the mental health foundation, nearly 14 million people per year are affected by these conditions. Alarmingly, of those affected, only about 20% will receive adequate treatment. In the United States, nearly 16% of the adult population will suffer from a depressive episode at least once in their life. These statistics are not bias of race, gender, or occupation. times also stigmatized with having a weak personality. In order to be able to better understand these conditions, many factors must be analyzed.
Causes for depression and anxiety are not clear across the board. These causes can range from an actual chemical imbalance to stress from having too many responsibilities. On an individual level, in order to better understand the causes and solutions for this problem, personal counseling is recommended.
Being able to discuss problems or even vent about certain situations can relieve an individual of the stresses that may lead to depression or anxiety. Stress can come in many forms. Physically, stresses can promote an uncomfortable feeling of tension in different parts of the body. This tension can become anxiety and can become overwhelming for some individuals. Psychologically, this anxiety can fill an individual with self doubt and can result in a bout with depression.
Stresses can manifest themselves at just about every phase of a persons' life. Attending college or a university can be a very stressful time.
