AUTUMN
mottled landscapes
of the mind
trembling intakes
of chilly breaths
Morpheus gazes
of soft regret
signposts left
far behind
on dusty roads
lost in time
promises kept
loves unloved
scars revealed
church bells pealed
all that seems now
so real
little puppies
now long gone
played and leapt
the dodging rhythms
of life's design
now failing
in an ancient chest
the fading hues
of scenes sublime
now whisper
of whiteness
cold and vast
under all
a cherished
past
