Writing for a living involves dedication, imagination and concentration. When deciding what you really need for your office, you should consider those things. Achieving success could be dependant on these factors.
You will spend countless hours in your office area. In fact, you will spend more time there than you will any place else. You want it to be comfortable without going overboard. Here are some suggestions that may help you decide exactly what you need in order to stay on top of your game:
Your Desk
The desk that you choose should be large enough to hold all of your writing tools. At a minimum you need enough space for your computer, printer, pens and paper. You will need plenty of space when working with traditional writing methods using paper and pens/pencils. This will allow you to spread your notes around which make them easier to work with.
Your Chair
It is important that you have a comfortable chair to sit in during you work periods. Choose one that has a high back so that you can rest your head an neck now and then. Ergonomic chairs are great back savers. You may also want to make sure that it has lumbar support. Your back gets stiff when you spend large amounts of time sitting in a chair.
Desktop and/or Laptop Computer
If your writing is your career, it is probably beneficial that you have both systems available to you. In a home office setting it will allow you more freedom of movement with a laptop. A laptop is also great to take with you when you are travelling. It is much easer to pen your words from a computer than it is to use the traditional method of paper and pencil.
With a computer, you can more easily move information around. If you find that you have put in a paragraph that should really go after a paragraph you have already written, you only need to go back and add it in. No more complete re-writes or endless scribble marks. It is also easier to track you notes.
Printer
This isn't always necessary if you are writing for Online Publishing companies such as Helium. With that type of work, you don't have to print your work. If you are writing for a magazine or other source, you may need to print information often. In either case, you may choose to print your work to have a hard copy of it.
Paper and Pens/Pencils
We are a tech savvy society that relies heavily on computers to get us through our day. As a writer, you will still need paper and pens/pencils. You will want to write down notes to ponder over them. You may also want to use the traditional
