The beginning of the school year is a time when most parents are looking for ways to save some money for kid's clothes. There are so many things that need to be bought at the beginning of the school year. School supplies, book bags, school shoes, registration and book fees can add up pretty quickly. This is especially true if you have more than one child in school. There are some things you can do to save a little money on school clothes for your kids.
Shop the Clearance Racks
Don't be ashamed to spend some time looking through the clearance racks of your favorite department stores or even your local Walmart. You can often find many reduced price items to add to your child's back to school wardrobe. The key to finding great clearance deals is starting early. The end of the season is the best time to pick up great clearance deals. You might be surprised at how much that $150 coat will go for towards the end of the winter season.
Check the clearance racks frequently and pick through each item to find things that may be lacking in your child's wardrobe. It is also not a bad idea to buy items that are a size bigger than your child actually wears. So, when the beginning of the school year rolls around and your child has grown, they will not have outgrown their new clothes.
Used Clothes
Thrift stores are a great place to find quality clothes for your kids to wear to school. If you take the time to go through the racks, you will likely find many quality items that look new. Sometimes you can even find clothes that still have the tags on them. Kids grow fast and they often do not wear out their clothes before they outgrow them. If your child doesn't like wearing clothes from the Goodwill or other thrift stores, shop without them. Sometimes kids are just afraid that they may be seen in the store buying used clothes. They may be more likely to wear the clothes if they didn't have to face the embarassment of shopping for them.
Your friends may have kids that have outgrown clothing that your child could wear. Exchanging clothing that has been outgrown is a great way for you to save money when shopping for your kids clothes. You could pass the savings along by passing along your own kid's clothing that is in good shape.
Online auction sites, such as Ebay, are another great place to look for kid's clothing. You can find new items for less than you'd pay in a department store. You can usually find name brand clothes for less than you'd pay at Walmart for off branded items. You can
