Basic facts about search engine optimization

Search Engine Optimization is a practice to maximize exposure and highest ranking of Internet content on search engines. SEO works by publishing internet content in a manner that delivers the highest yield of search engine results.
Search Engines operate web crawlers that scan the existence and content of websites. Basic crawling looks at the page name, page title, text content and keywords. Major search engines crawls analyze hyperlinks and references to other web content in order to determine the importance of a website.
SEO has evolved to a major component in online marketing, growing in conjunction with cost-per-click advertising. Modern web design firms have evolved to specializing or offering extended services in SEO as their clients are looking to for better exposure in search results.
The search engines sometimes consider the work of SEO to be similar to email spam since it is designed to trick their system into trusting something that they normally wouldn't. As a result, search engines have developed countermeasures to discourage the use of SEO.
The major search engines are constantly evolving, so the SEO practices also adjusts. SEO can be thought to reverse engineer the search engine. Nobody knows the exact best practice, but through anecdotal evidence. Since there are many search sites that very in their ranking algorithms, the practise of SEO is not only a guess, but a balance between potentially conflicting rules.
The concept of SEO is to produce useful and organized information. In short, give what the user wants. The purpose of a search engines is, afterall, to supply the most relevant result or the best set of choices.
