In the Marketplace, your work is judged solely on its own merits. Your credentials as an author are not the sole consideration. However, they are important. In order to get started in the Helium Marketplace, you need to create a professional impression. Once you've got your foot in the door, you can start selling articles and making money. If you follow these tips on how to make a place for yourself in the Marketplace, you should do fine.
Create a Portfolio of Articles on Helium.com
Many Helium Marketplace publishers are interested in seeing other work that you've done in the past. They're also more likely to purchase articles from authors who have a portfolio of articles than from someone who's never written before. You don't have to have been paid to publish your articles. They just need to be published on Helium so that publishers can browse them at their leisure. Write on a variety of topics that publishers want to purchase, such as holidays, health and fitness, travel, relationships, product reviews, art and crafting. Be meticulous about grammar and spelling. Your articles should be formatted in paragraphs with no indentation, and two spaces between paragraphs and subheaders, just like most web publishing. Don't repeat the title in your article, and refrain from delineating your article with unnecessary subheads such as "Introduction" and "Conclusion." Place at least half of your articles in competitive titles and rate articles daily so that you can earn some writing and rating stars. Once you have one writing star, you can also write for Helium Marketplace Premier titles.
Create Your "About Me" Page on Helium
Write a brief biography about yourself to post on Helium.com. State any previous work you've had published or websites that you regularly write for. Mention any education you have, even if it isn't directly related to writing. Include a little personal information about yourself, as well. Post a good picture of yourself on the page. For best results, make sure that the picture is no longer than 300 pixels on the longest side. Fill out the "Briefly Me" section to give publishers a better idea of who you are. Keep the tone of your About Me page professional, positive and upbeat.
